Agabus
Posted by Jools
A tribute to a friend and valued member of the St Pixels Community
It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of Agabus, a long standing member of this community.
Agabus has suffered ill health for several years now, but remained cheerful and determined to live life to the full despite his failing strength.
I am sure that you will join me in assuring his wife, Sue, his Mum, and his daughters Sarah and Bethany, of our prayers at this difficult time. He will be missed!
I'm sure many of you have fond memories of his contribution to the community here, his love and support to many friends, and especially his lovely sense of humour and gentle banter in LIVE.
I know many of you enjoyed reading his spiritual journal, "The Chronicles of Agabus" and found much in there to reflect on.
Here are a couple of extracts from that journal...
"God is not only present in the here and now and eternity, he is present in the fearful bit in-between. God is present, even in death itself. God, present here and now; God present in eternity, doesn’t change. God is constant, unchanged, unchanging. In death it is we who change. Change from this physical body/being into what Paul calls glorious bodies, a phrase the definition of which need not bother us unduly.
by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
Philippians 3. 21
What is the faith this evidence underpins? That God is present in the here and now, God is present in the here after, and God is present in the change in-between. Just three words, Christ is risen! Three words that contain the whole of life, the whole of everything, Christ is risen.
That change will occur for us all one day, and God is present in it. Because Christ is risen, we know that we shall be raised also, by the power and action of Almighty God himself.
Christ is risen. He is risen indeed. Hallelujah!"

"I am aware and immensely grateful for the prayers and concern of St Pixel people while I’ve been ill, you are truly wonderful folk. Thank you. I have also been in the prayers of our RL church and other Christians across the globe. I’m the first to admit that I don’t know how prayer works, but to know that I was being upheld before God by so many people brought me a real sense of peace and reliance on him."

We last saw Paul when we called in about 6 weeks ago. Quite a diversion from a journey up the A1, but well worth it. He was well, and, despite the limitations on his mobility, enjoyed a keen interest in anything and everything. A good friend, a powerful preacher, and above all the Lord's faithful and devoted servant to his life's end.
Father, we commend our friend and brother Paul to your never-failing care and love. May he rest in peace and rise in glory, for you are faithful who has promised this.

Lord, thank you for giving us 'agabus'.
We are richer for knowing him and now he is in your arms, may he rest in peace knowing that his words and love will go on for evermore.

I cannot find words to express the depth of my loss at agabus's passing. He was more than a friend, more than a confidant, more than a spiritual guide. He was all of that and so much more.
['] for Susan, his daughters, and his mum.
Thank You, Lord, for the influence agabus has had, and will continue to have on so many of us.

oh dear, i will miss agabus, or "abe" as i called him. (my dislexic nickname for him)... and he never once complained. he was very dear to me. we have prayed together many times, for my family and his. i still remember his daily prayers for his daughters' home when the floods came. he was diligent. it always made my day brighter to get to chat with him for a few minutes. my heart and my prayers go out to his family. rest in peace my dear friend.

I've not been in St P's much since the changes, but remember sharing with agabus in Live, reading his blogs etc on the old St P's. A lovely gent, God bye, till we all see each other in the heavenly 'Live'..
Thank you Lord for Agabus, be with all those who are missing him, wrap your loving arms around them and whisper words of comfort into their ears.
